Get to Know Yvette Morton Williams, Rotary Club of Rockdale President

This month we'd like to introduce you to an impressive Rotarian who is immersed in community service in Rockdale County. She will answer to any of the following titles or positions in which she serves, including, board member, volunteer of the year, woman of the year, president, and chief inspiration officer, just to name a few. Oh, and let's not forget....mom!  Our member in focus this month currently serves as President for the Rotary Club of Rockdale County!

For 14 years, Yvette Morton Williams has been president and chief inspiration officer of a small chain of upscale laundries located in Atlanta, Conyers, Lithonia, and Covington. The laundromats “provide you with a better laundry experience,” Williams said. “We have been committed to creating an enjoyable atmosphere for all of our customers.”

A resident of Conyers since 2010, Williams brings this same philosophy to the Rotary Club of Rockdale County where she serves as president. “I enjoy the wide reach of this organization and I see the good things that happen when Rotarians come together,” she said.

“I know that there are so many accomplished professionals who dedicate their time to this organization, and I enjoy working alongside smart and passionate leaders to get things done.”

She was honored to represent the club at the 2023 Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia. “The opportunity to meet and interact with Rotarians from around the world was priceless and infused me with an even greater desire to serve,” she said.

Williams was introduced to Rotary by Fred Boscarino, the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce president, in the summer of 2019. She interviewed Boscarino as part of her marketing efforts for a newly established business in Conyers. A long-time Rotarian, he invited her to attend the Rotary Club of Rockdale County as his guest.

At the time, she was not familiar with Rotary, but “quickly learned that a group of professionals who were leaders in the community and dedicated to community service” was her “kind of team.” She joined the club after three visits and has been active ever since, serving as club secretary, fundraiser co-chair, and now president.

Yvette has always been attracted to community service, starting as a teenage candy striper at a Chicago hospital, so Rotary seemed to be a perfect fit. She said, “I have enjoyed the good feelings of being part of something greater than me.”

She also serves on several boards, including the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, the City of Conyers Mayor's Diversity Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board, the Coin Laundry Association Executive Committee, and the Mercy Heart Board of Directors, to name a few.

Seven years ago, she founded the Gate City Day Nursery Association Camille Hope Fairman Scholarship for Teen Mothers. In 2021, she established the $4,000 Carl Van Williams Service Scholarship for Rockdale County high school seniors in honor of her husband’s late uncle. A high school basketball coach in Columbia, SC, his service to the community through coaching was her inspiration.

That same year, she was honored as the James P. Culpepper, Jr., Volunteer of the Year by the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and one year later she was named the 2022 Woman of the Year at the we3 Women’s Conference. Also in 2022, she was selected as a 2022 Rockin’ Woman of Rockdale by County Chairman Oz Nesbitt.

Williams is a graduate of the 2020 Leadership Rockdale Class of Visionaries where she remains active in planning classes for future community leaders. In addition, she is a graduate of the 2023 Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Leadership Institute.

Prior to owning her own business, Williams worked for 16 years in the pharmaceutical industry in sales, marketing, and consulting. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Florida A & M University, Tallahassee, Florida, and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business, New York City. She has been married to her husband, Wade, for 28 years and they have two children, Elijah and Nia. Her hobbies include reading, exercise and travel.
