A Pasadena native, Conrad Ukropina followed the footsteps of his great uncle, Jim, who went north to play for the Stanford Cardinal. Jim caught passes as a tight end at Stanford, but Conrad's gift was his foot! Conrad was an all-section kicker and punter in high school.
As a walk-on redshirt freshman at The Farm, Ukropina made 11 of 12 extra point attempts and two of four field goal tries in eight games. The next season his only action was to convert an extra point.
He hadn't even received a scholarship yet when taking over kicking duties in 2015, converting all 67 extra point tries and 18 of 20 field goals (with a long of 52 yards). The honorable mention All-Pac-12 pick received his scholarship before the USC game that year, and fans all over Cardinal country thought he earned it with the 45-yard game-winner against Notre Dame.
Ukropina was an honorable mention all-conference selection as a senior as well, going 22-for-27 on field goals and making all 34 extra points. He set school records for consecutive extra points with 108, as well as the career field goal percentage (82.4), and converted four field goals in his last collegiate game against North Carolina in the Sun Bowl.
Conrad's story of Practice, Patience and Perseverance will be shared by his Dad, Bill Ukropina.
