Club Description:

The Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake is a very active club, meeting at the Westlake Golf and Country Club on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month for breakfast and a program.  The meetings begin at 7:30 AM and end by 8:30. Anyone interested in exploring joining the Rotary Club or in volunteering in one of our projects should drop in on a meeting or send an email to Carolyn Gordon, winupcg@gmail.com.

Our Community, Vocational, and International Service Projects during the last year included:

  • Tackling Hunger and Nutrition provided over two tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to the hungry of the Smith Mountain Lake area.
  • Thanksgiving Baskets will be provided to needy children and their families in 4 schools.
  • Our Excellence in Education Award Banquet will honor the teacher of the year in 8 Elementary Schools.
  • High School Scholarships were previously awarded to one senior at Franklin County High School and one senior at Staunton River High School.
  • Two high school students were sponsored to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) conference at Virginia Tech.
  • Emergency 911 dock signs were made and installed on SML docks.
  • Parking support was provided to the  Chamber of Commerce Business Expo.
  • Two pontoon boats and 15 Rotarians participated in Annual Lake Clean Up.
  • Volunteer support was provided to the  Annual Charity Home Tour.
  • The club led a multi-club international project with the Rotary Club of Moshi in Tanzania.
  • The club raised awareness and money of the need to eradicate polio worldwide.
  • To support these projects, the Club conducted two fund raisers: the Nite at the Races in October and the sale of Christmas trees. In addition, it had four fellowship socials during the year.
