March is Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation Month

MARCH IS WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE MONTH
Clean water is a basic human right that many are often denied. There are 2.5 billion people in the world who lack access to improved sanitation and 748 million people that don’t have clean drinking water. Nearly 1400 children die each day from diseases caused by lack of sanitation and unsafe water. When people have access to clean water, they live healthier and more productive lives.

February is Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month

Rotary Promotes Peace

Today, over 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations. Half of them are children.

We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.

Rotary creates environments of peace

As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of our mission. We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.

By carrying out service projects and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Our commitment to peacebuilding today answers new challenges: how we can make the greatest possible impact and how we can achieve our vision of lasting change. We are approaching the concept of peace with greater cohesion and inclusivity, broadening the scope of what we mean by peacebuilding, and finding more ways for people to get involved.

Rotary creates environments where peace can happen. https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes/promoting-peace/

Perry Rotary Club Honors Veterans at Heartfelt Luncheon!

Perry Rotary Club Honors Veterans at Heartfelt Luncheon!
The Perry Rotary Annual Veterans’ Luncheon was a resounding success, with a remarkable turnout of veterans from various branches of the military. The event opened with a warm welcome and the presentation of the colors by the Perry High School JROTC Cadets under the guidance of Master Sergeant Robert Spears followed by a series of inspiring speeches that highlighted the importance of service and camaraderie among generations.
Senator Larry Walker gave a very informative welcome address highlighting the deep roots of the armed forces in Houston County. Our guest speaker, Colonel Christina Darveau shared her military heritage, her personal experiences, insights, and inspirations in the military. Her speech resonated deeply with the audience, underscoring the values of duty, honor, and service that unite veterans and the community.
Guests were treated to a delicious meal sponsored by Hamby Chevrolet, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all attendees. Each veteran was acknowledged for their dedicated service to the nation, and was given a commemorative pin by Perry Rotarians. A nice touch was Colonel Darveau’s gifting commemorative coins to the veterans of the recently decommissioned J-STARs, capping a three-decade career as a military “eye in the sky.
The annual Veteran's Luncheon served as a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of service and sacrifice that is at the heart of our nation. It was a day filled with heartfelt tributes, shared stories, and the unwavering gratitude of a community that deeply respects and appreciates the dedication of our veterans.
Perry Rotary would like to thank all Rotarians and volunteers involved in making this event a success.
