On the morning of Tuesday, March 26th, Rotarians Maureen Flint, Jenifer Thrasher, and Nicholas Key represented the Rotary Club of Loganville at the Walton County Chamber's Career Awareness Expo! At the event, Maureen, Jenifer, and Nicholas discussed Interact, Roteract, and Rotary International's overall mission with students from Loganville High School, Walnut Grove High School, and Loganville Christian Academy. In addition to providing fliers about Rotary, they also gave out free bookmarks and cards with Rotary's "Four Way Test" and the "Object of Rotary" to students that act as a frequent reminder of the importance of service and fellowship. Overall, our appearance at the Walton Chamber's Career Awareness Expo was a fantastic opportunity for Loganville Rotarians to reach local students and highlight the work that we continue to do for our community!

2023 was a big year for the Loganville Rotary Club. The majority of the leadership remained the same, with the biggest change being the transition of the President's role.
President transitioned from Ron Drag to Ray Lane
President-Elect from Ray Lane to Donna Hill
President Nominee from Donna Hillt to Jared Eakins
Other changes included Beckie Smith assuming the chair of the Wing Fling, Jeimy Arias becoming the Foundation Chair in Training, and Nicholas Key stepping into the GRSP Chair.

The Loganville Rotary Club has taken an incredible step towards supporting international education in Colombia. Through the Club’s funding, we are making it possible to build a much-needed science lab at Liceo Vencedores. This initiative demonstrates the club's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities internationally for students and fostering a love for science and discovery.

Last week our Foundation Chair, Donna Hill, gave an update on the various giving levels in Rotary and a summary of our club's giving history. The most recognizable is the Paul Harris Fellow, which starts the recognition at the $1,000 level and expands up to the $1,000,000 Legacy Society Level. What's important to know is that it begins with a simple $25 per quarter. While the Rotary is fortunate to have many donors that can and do provide large amounts, the quantity of small amounts makes a difference. After re-educating us on levels, she shared what our club has achieved in the 20 years.

He is currently a Graduate Student at the University of Georgia pursuing a degree in Public Administration. ROTARY GIVES BOOKS
On December 15 the Loganville Rotary donated 1,200 books to 400 children in 3 elementary schools in Walton County. Students at Loganville Elementary, Bay Creek Elementary, and Sharon Elementary received a package of 3 books with pencils.

A few weeks ago our club was able to donate money to Loganville High School Coat Drive. This program included the donation of $3,000 which was used to provide 91 sets of coats and gloves to students in need at the high school. In this photo is Dr. Bolemon and Andrea Mitchell. Jenifer and Marty Thrasher have been Rotarians since 2020 and 2018 respectively. They are the owners of Dixie Exhaust Cleaning, who serves the restaurant industry in the southeast US. Their company provides cleaning services for the ventilation systems for restaurants. Proper cleaning allows for efficient and safe operation of restaurants.
Both of them chose to join the Rotary Club of Loganville so they could give back and serve the community and meet the finest business owners.

On Saturday Dec 10 the Loganville Rotary continued the tradition of partnering with the Salvation Army to Ring the Bell.
Starting at 9:30 AM and ending at 5:30 PM, over 25 Rotarians (50% of the club) and their families greeted the community at the local Kroger as they did their shopping. Filling the area with some Christmas sounds and cheer. Santa Claus made an appearance and many children enjoyed the Candy Canes that were passed out as a thank you.
What a great atmosphere and experience for those involved and the community. Seeing the charity and fellowship was very inspirational.

Donna Hill, Director of Senior & Marketplace Markets of E2E Benefits Services joined the Loganville Rotary in October of 2020. She currently serves as the Foundation Chair and is the President-Nominee. Based on the Rotary by laws and leadership succession plan, this means she is scheduled to be the president of the Loganville Rotary Club from 2024 to 2025.
Before joining the Rotary, we all had different expectations of what would occur. When asked to reflect on what part of Rotary has best matched her expectations, she stated, "I love that Rotary’s motto is Service Above Self and our club lives that out. I also love that when you step into this club it is just a given that every other member is now a friend. Not just a fellow Rotarian, but a friend in the truest sense. I expected that, but not for it to happen so immediately."
When discussing the benefits of being a Rotarian, Donna said, "The benefits to the community are innumerable. We do so much in and around the Loganville/Walton area. I have benefited personally because I now have a sizable network of resources I can call on for advice and help."
Donna's role as Foundation Chair is critical to the service that is provided by the club and ultimately the community impact. We are so grateful for her service and appreciative of her willingness to take on new responsibilities. These are great traits of someone in line to be a future president, a role that she will surely serve well.

On May 11, 2022 the Rotary Club of Loganville hosted the 7th annual WingFling. As you can see here, we like to have some fun. While we don't take ourselves too seriously, we are very serious about contributing to our community.
This year we had over 50 local businesses participate include 28 contestants that prepared wings for attendees. Thousands of people had fun, ate wings, and voted for the best wings. This year's winner was The Philanthropy Grill & Ale House.
Best of all we raised funds that will be used throughout the year to do projects in the community.

Nearly 20 members spent time this morning working on the roadside cleanup project. Working in and around Destination Park off Tuck Rd in Loganville our team collected several hundred pounds and delivered to the local dump.

This past Memorial Day weekend the Loganville Rotary Club pulled off a great Wing Fling. There were 40 vendors and 17 contestants in the Wing Fling Cookoff. This year was the first year that we had a Wing Eating Contest, and we had 16 people competing for that. We ended up raising about $10,000 for our charitable causes in the community and abroad.

We were contacted by Nancy Henson regarding her grandson, Phillip Henson, who was desperately in need of a wheelchair ramp. He has cerebral palsy and lost his Mom in 2018. His Dad recently lost a foot due to diabetes, so the ramp will help them both. We took a vote in our board meeting regarding the wheelchair ramp and we unanimously voted to help this family. We subbed the job out to a local handyman named Joe who did the job for two thirds of the price!
This is a Loganville Rotary Club project, and yet another example of how the Loganville Rotary Club helps the local community. This is who we are and this is what we do. We help thy neighbor. We are “People of action!” We are successful people helping people. If you’d like to visit or be a part of this awesome club we meet every Thursday at 7:15 am at the IHOP in Loganville. The Loganville Rotary Club planted 12 cherry trees and conditioned the previous trees in front of City Hall this past Saturday. We wanted to keep our community looking good. Our Mayor Rey Martinez has an office here and he is a Rotarian as well. These trees were originally planted to commemorate deceased and fallen Rotarians throughout the years. Homer Gibbins came to Loganville last Thursday and the event was fantastic! We all had such a great time with food, spirits, and music! He gave a speech about not giving up, fighting through pain after being told he couldn't fight anymore (and went on to win another World Boxing Title!!), and making a name for yourself. He signed autographs and took pictures with fans. Surprisingly, he was an old teammate of our President, Marty Thrasher! We had a live remote broadcast going on with Country Radio Station Q92.3! They had also done our advertising for the event leading up to it. We also advertised with old time boxing posters all over the city. At the event, Homer received a key to the city from our Mayor, Rey Martinez. All in all it was a successful and fun event!

This year we had another successful "Loganville Rotary Gives Books." We went to three Elememntary Schools; Loganville, Sharon, and Bay Creek, and gave the 1st graders two books each along with an activity books and a backpack. They were so excited to receive their books, and you should have seen the looks on their little faces. It was so sweet to see. All in all it was a very successful event and we all had a great time and it was such a blessing.

Many Rotarians from the Loganville Rotary Club helped out this past Saturday by Ringing The Bell for the Salvation Army. We stood in front of the Kroger in Loganville and collected a lot of money for them. This money will go to help people in need. The Salvation Army does many things that they don't get credit for, like disaster relief, homeless shelters, food pantries, alcohol & drug rehab, job training, help for domestic abuse, and services for the aging among many other things. We all are grateful for the chance to help out in such a large way.

Our 16th Annual Golf Tournament was held at Monroes Golf and Country Club last Friday. It was a whopping success! We partnered with Special Kneads and Treats to raise money for charity and we raised about $25k together. The tournament was different this year due to COVID, but we still did very well and hope to use our half of the funds to help our community in many ways.

AutumnFest was a great success. We educated the public about Polio and how Rotary has helped and still helps to eradicate it from the world. We distributed information, gave away Polio bracelets, and had banners all around us. It was great. The World Health Organization (WHO), announced recently that the wild Polio virus has been stopped in all 47 countries in Africa, and Rotary played a role in that. Later on this week, Saturday to be exact, is World Polio Day. Sadly we can't have a big event due to COVID, but we CAN celebrate online. We plan on taking pictures from our AutumnFest Polio Education Day, and putting them online for everyone to see.

John Sauers is our "Chief of Staff" and has been a two time President of the Loganville Rotary Club. He is an honorable man and well deserving of this Patriarch Award that was presented to him by Tina Fischlin, our Distric Governor, and Club President Marty Thrasher. He's a Charter Member and has been a part of the club since November 20, 2002. He has his hand in everything pertaining to Rotary. He's the first one to arrive and the last one to leave when it comes to projects and setting up for events.

Our District Governor, Tina Fischlin, came to visit our club last week (10/01/2020). We welcomed her with a luau type atmosphere which was both fun and exciting. We had fun headpieces, sunglasses, and leis for everyone to wear for the "Back to the Beach" theme. We had a custom made towel with our "Wing Fling" mascot for the beach towel competition. Tina displayed a profesional attitude that made us feel right at home with her. Her personality fit right in with us and she participated in the fun. She had an opportunity to speak with all the board members asking all of them about the club, how we got started with it, future goals and objectives, etc. She and Marty also presented John Sauers with a Patriarch Award and Sheryl Fambrough with a Matriarch Award for being such integral parts of the club. The Club President, Marty Thrasher, had an opportunity to speak about his vision and mission statements along with his goals for the club. It was an impeccable, exciting, and fun meeting that we will not forget.

The Loganville Rotary Club cleaned up Destination Park. We put down a fresh layer of mulch (which was a lot of work; a tractor was needed), we cleaned the Kurt Hanson bench, and we really brightened up the place and made it nicer for public use. TEAM ROTARY!

Fill The Bus was a great success! We filled the schoolbus outside of the Loganville WalMart with all kinds of school supplies for children in need in partnership with The Student Success Alliance. We stood outside of WalMart and handed everyone that came in a slip of paper. On that paper was a list of school supplies from pencils and pens to backpacks. We asked everyone to please purchase whatever school supply they could afford that was on the list and we would put it on the bus for the kids. The Loganville Rotary Club is made up of about 35 business owners and managers in which we put "service above self." TEAM LOGANVILLE ROTARY!

Our Loganville Rotary Club, “people of action,” consists of about 35 local business owners or managers, Christian based athletic organizations, to Loganville football players. It also includes the acting district attorney, and even the Mayor of Loganville. All were participants in hands on “service above self” when they helped move this 800 pound shed for an elderly person in need. His HOA required the building to be in the backyard or else he would have to tear it down. This is one of the many reasons why OUR club was voted Small Club of the Year.

Wing Fling HUGE Success!
It was hot but that did not stop the fun. When it was done, the 5th Annual Wing Fling raised over $17,000 that will go DIRECTLY to local charities and ministry efforts. Every single dollar raised goes directly to organizations serving the needs of Loganville and beyond.
That is exactly what the Rotary Club of Loganville is all about-successful people working together to help people in our community AND having fun doing it.

In the last few weeks the Loganville Rotary Club has wrapped up our CLC project. Helping fix up the Christian Learning Center’s Loganville location, making it safe for the students in time for school. We approved funding for computers and programs for a local teacher that works with disadvantaged children in Loganville, we helped fill 2 school buses full of school supplies for students without the means to even buy pencils and paper for back to school and so much more. Loganville Rotary is where you can plug in, have fun, and give back…..that’s what Rotary is…successful people helping people. Loganville and everyone had a great time. One visitor shared, “I have been to
many network groups and never felt so welcome and engaged, truly a neat

Our guest speaker on 4/18/19 was Larry Ebert - CEO of Piedmont Walton Hospital. On April 1st, 2018, Piedmont Walton joined the Piedmont system of 11 hospitals. There are over 600 Piedmont affiliated locations in Georgia and with over 30,000 employees, including over 2000 physicans, Piedmont is the states 6th largest employer. Healthcare is definetly consolidating in Georgia. In fact, 30 hospitals sought to become part of the Piedmont system. Piedmont Walton had over 32,000 emergency room visits in 2018, or roughly 90 visits per day. In the first year of transition from what you may remember as Clearview Hospital, Piedmont experienced an alarming 66% turnover rate. With an incredible focus on recruitment, the turnover rate has been reduced to 3.9%. But it takes more than just a surge of rehiring to retain employees and stablize an organization - it takes a culture change and that's exactly what has happened at Piedmont Walton. It was a beautiful Spring day on April 13th and a perfect day for our club members to do some landscaping at the 4-Winds Mission House and Loganville High School's Walton County Christian Learning Center location. What a great turnout of members and family who made this day possible! We planted 18 new shrubs at the Mission House and put out 18 bales of pinestraw. The Christian Learning Center involved cleaning out, securing and pressure washing the gutters, prepping and painting walls and trim, staining the newly installed door entry canopy, and general maintenance tasks inside and outside the facilty. We also took on cleaning of the school's bus which involved a thorough washing both inside and out. We know as club members that we are called to serve our community and it is an honor to be associated to 4-Winds Ministry and the Walton County Christian Learning Center. There is still work to accomplish at the Christian Learning Center and we look forward to the next workday and some great fellowship with our members and friends.

April McClendon, Walton County's Area Representative of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), was our guest speaker on March 21st, 2019. April shared how she had been a Division 1 athlete at Eastern Michigan University in soccer and softball, and how she had been influenced throughout her athletic career by the coaches she encountered. April shared that Billy Graham once said that a single coach will impact more young people in a year than the average person will impact in a lifetime. April reminded us how we too were influenced by a coach at some time in our lives and how FCA can serve such an important role in our schools to involve as many of 21,500 students and 450 coaches in Walton County schools. She told us that 73% of our community is unchurched, and how her role is to build relationships within our community to provide opportunities and resources to equip and empower coaches and athletes to either seek a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior or help them to grow in that relationship with Him. We are so excited to have April in our community and we look forward to all the great things to come with FCA in Walton County. Great work April!

Our guest speaker this week was Dr. Jirrica Dodd of Your Pharmacy Advocate. She delivered an amazing presentation about pharmaceutical advocacy. You’re probably wondering what pharmaceutical advocacy is all about. Well, Dr. Dodd explained that it is about having a dedicated pharmacist available to you to develop a plan to manage medications, vitamins and supplements. This is a very needed service in our world today where our health care providers are prescribing pills to solve all of our health problems rather than address the root cause of our illness. Dr. Dodd consults with individuals to address their concerns about the drugs, vitamins, and supplements, and explains the benefits and potential side effects, including the interaction that one drug has with other drugs. The service she provides involves one-on-one consultation and drug analysis, reports and explanation of prescribed drugs, and regular check-in communications to monitor each client’s progress towards maintaining and improving their health. Dr. Dodd closes the gap on medications risks and empowers patients to manage their health better. Mr. Kevin Rainey, past director of Information Technology at Kubota Manufacturing was our guest speaker on March 14, 2019. If you don’t know, Kubota is a Japanese tractor manufacturer located in Georgia. For over 30 years, Kubota Manufacturing of America Corporation has contributed to a robust industrial and agricultural economy that employs over 1,000 local area residents in the Gainesville community. Kubota produces a series of tractors that span from lawn tractors to backhoes and front loaders. Due to the Kubota’s success in Gainesville, a new company named Kubota Industrial Equipment was opened in Jefferson, Georgia where performs reassembly of tractors built in Japan. Currently, Kubota employs a team of over 2000 employees who produce the highest quality Kubota products. We found out that Kubota is considered an eco-focused company with a corporate commitment to tackle food, water, and environmental issues across the world. Everyone is familiar with the bright orange color of Kubota, but we surprised to find out that teal is the popular color in Japan. We appreciate Kevin coming in to share his experiences at Kubota with our Club and how Kubota contributes to our local economy every day.

Sheriff Joe Chapman was our guest speaker on February 28th, 2019. We always love having Sheriff Chapmen as our guest every year. We know that Sheriff Chapman is a committed public safety servant who works hard to make our community a safer place to live and work. Sheriff Chapman told us about the operational and financial challenges facing his department. He shared that he is very pleased to have an approved budget that provides for a fully staffed department for the first time in a while. He shared that one of the biggest budget challenges in the cost of medical care that his department must cover for incarcerated persons. This requirement has placed an incredible financial burden on the department that makes it difficult to maintain a balanced budget each year. Sheriff Chapman also told us about a challenging case that really pulled at his heart strings. The magistrate court had issued an order to evict an old woman from a residential care center in Loganville. Sheriff Chapman said she was mentally incapacitated, and unable to take care of herself. He said he was working hard to get State agencies involved, that he would prefer to arrest the woman to make sure that she had a roof over her head, food, and proper medical care than put her out on the street. We truly appreciate Sheriff Chapman, how he demonstrates his care for everyone in our community, and how he goes the distance to truly fulfill his oath to Walton County. Mr. Brian Peart, our President-elect, was our guest speaker on March 7th, 2019. Brian is a very successful business person who possesses a great sense of how to effectively manage time. Brian shared with us about time management best practices and how to balance the enormous demands we face on a daily basis. He demonstrated how to qualify the demands as urgent and important to non-urgent and unimportant using the Covey Time Management Matrix. With this, Brian explained how place specific activities in time blocks so that we organize our day and remain as productive as possible with our available time. Brian explained that we can’t avoid all emergencies that, at times, can interrupt our best designed plans, but that we can return to an organized way of getting tasks accomplished once the emergency is behind us. We truly appreciate Brian’s focus on this topic and his willingness to share his experience with our Club. We look forward to his leadership as President in the coming year!

Mr. Karry Castellano, Manager of Loganville’s Hobby Lobby store, was our guest speaker on February 7th, 2019. Karry gave us an overview of his journey in the retail industry to assume the important position at Hobby Lobby. Karry shared how the founder of Hobby Lobby, David Green, started the company in his garage in 1970 and is now is the largest privately owned arts and crafts retailer in the world. Hobby Lobby has over 800 stores and has reached $4 billion in revenues. Karry shared that the success of the company is based in how it gives back so generously to the world around us. He also shared that the company gives away roughly 50% of its pre-tax earnings to evangelical ministries. Michael Kohler, the director or Special Kneads and Treats was the speaker for our January 31st meeting. The organization was born as a way to provide special needs adults a way to contribute to the community and perhaps earn a small paycheck. There are currently over 200 people with special needs on the waiting list to become staff members of Special Kneads and treats. Along with employing special needs adults they also provided birthday cakes to those in need such as children in foster care or homeless shelters. They recently moved to a larger location and have dreams of expanding their locations across the area so as to be able to engage more special needs adults in their own communities. They will be hosting a gala in March as a fundraiser for the organization to address the mortgage and other ongoing facility needs. They supplied us with delicious treats baked by the staff (and they were quite tasty). Our Rotary Club has made a donation to this organization as we believe this is a great way to help not only special needs adults in our area, but their families too. Give them a try. Our January 24th speaker was Mr. Neal Singer. Mr. Singer is in charge of the PGA Tour, which is a 501c3 non-profit that was established in 1968 in conjunction with the Professionals Golfers Association Tournaments. Mr. Singer is in charge of running the non-profit arm which has donated $ 2.6 Billion dollars to over 300 charities. In the previous year $180 million dollars was raised which exceeds the NFL, the MBA and Professional Hockey combined. Locally Mr. Singer is in charge of the Mitsubishi Classic played at Sugarloaf in Gwinnett County. The charity fully funded the new Concussion Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center and is now donating funds to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. If you would like to volunteer at the Mitsubishi Classic, Mr. Singer will be glad to find a place for you and your efforts will certainly benefit worthy causes.

Our second speaker of 2019 was Joseph Cavallo. Mr. Cavallo is a retired FBI agent and Chairman of the Atlanta Chapter of Retired FBI Agents. Since retiring from the FBI he has operated Joseph V. Cavallo & Associates a consulting agency that provides security analysis and systems. Mr. Cavallo shared with us the job the FBI plays in our national security and how that has evolved since 9/11. He made us aware of the many types of skilled people the FBI employs such as CPA's,tech surveillance staff and intelligence analysts. The three areas that the FBI currently focus the majority of their attention and staff on are terrorism, public corruption and white collar crime. Mr. Cavallo had lots of things he couldn't tell us, but he does feel the current leadership of the FBI is strong. We certainly left the meeting feeling better about the security of our country.

Our guest speaker on January 10th, 2019, was Aysha Cooper with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center. Aysha has 20 years of experience either working with small business owners or as a busines owner herself. She speaks from personal experience as the owner of SarahCare in Snellville, GA. Prior to joining the SBDC, Aysha opened her first business with the guidance and expertise of the SBDC. Aysha shared with us that she could many of the lessons she has learned in business were the result of hard work and practice, but that this process could have been much easier with help from the SBDC. Meeting payroll, paying rent, supporting the operation, obtaining investors, creating a marketing plan, and dealing with human resource related issues are business practices shared by experts working with the SBDC. We were greatly encouraged with Aysha's personal story and the wise advice of a proven business franchiser. Thank you Aysha for your commitment to the aspiring business owners of our cummunity and thank you so much for taking time to share with our Club.

The Loganville Rotary Club started off 2019 with a fantastic speaker Mr. Frank Loethen. Frank “The Tank” Loethen is a Navy veteran with successful careers in Submarine Nuclear Power and Aviation. Frank served on 3 fast attack submarines in the Engineering Department. He has traversed the Panama and Suez canals on a submarine. After his submarine service Frank completed his college degree and was commisioned as an officer in 2001 and became a Naval Flight officer. He then served as a Training Director for the Navy's first Poseidon Squadron (aircraft). He is currently retired from active duty and is the Training Section Manager for the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources overseeing employee licensing, certification, training and career development of about 600 employees. Frank regaled us with some of his adventures during his military service and had our complete attention. We thank Frank for his service to our Country and know he is making a difference for Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources. Great job Frank!

Jeff McKinney was our guest speaker on 12/20/18 and he has a interesting life journey for sure. Jeff is from rural Missippii where he pursued and received a degree in nuclear enginnering graduating at the top of his class. Following a successful career in the nuclear industry, he changed directions and pursued mutiple entreprenaur endeavors and ultimately move to a successful career in technical sales. Through all of this transition, Jeff became more aware of his own personality strengths, and ultimately he became a certified DISC speaker. DISC provides a method of is a method of identifying predictable actions and personality traits within human behavior. D represents the Dominant personality type, and I represents the Influence, S for Steadiness, and C for Compliant. Jeff explained that with each of the types, there are specific associated behaviors that we exhibit in our work and every day lives. It was incredibly insightful to better understand what drives our actions and reactions to various situations we face during the course of our careers and interaction with others.

Loganville Rotarians were ringing the bells this Saturday at the Loganville Kroger, and even though it was a very cold and rainy December day, we were warmed by the generosity of the Community's giving spirit as always. This is an annual event for our Rotary Club, and this year we were blessed to have one of our wonderful Interact members from Loganville High School Interact Club and our friends from Loganville's Legacy Lion's Club and Loganville's Lion's Club stand with us to make this another successful event. The Christmas music and festive fellowship warmed our hearts and souls and helped us to spread thankfulness and infectious cheer in this Christmas season. God Bless our giving citizens for expressing their love through their donations and thanks to our servant members and friends for braving the cold and rain to postively impact in the lives of those in need.

Randy McGinley presented a vocational talk to the Loganville Club on November 29th. Randy is one of our newer members. Randy received his undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech and worked for a few years in real estate appraisals before returning to law school. He is married to Charly, a radio personality on B 98.5 radio and they have a 3 year old daughter. He is the Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Alcovy Circuit Court. The Alcovy Circuit covers Walton and Newton County. Randy helps to oversee 22 attorneys, 10 investigators, 11 victim advocates, 10 legal assistants, 2 office managers, and 2 administrative assistants in two offices and serves as one of the chief prosecutors for the court system. He shared with us the many hats he must wear in his role; from prosecutor, and investigator to teacher, advocate and counselor. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated individual in our court system and in our Club. Thank you Randy for your service to the people of our community.

Mr. Steve Brown, with the Walton County Historical Society was our guest speak on November 15th. Steve spoke to our Club about Walton County native Moina Michaels. Ms. Michaels was a very influential educator in her time and certainly someone who we should cherish as a Walton County citizen. She introduced and almost single-handedly worked to establish the red poppy as a symbol to honor and remember soliders from the Great War ( WWI). Ms. Michaels is related to our very own club member Sheryl Fambrough and like her we are proud to remember a native daughter and her contributions to our veterans. John expressed that over the past 100 years, poppy sales have exceeded $3 billion. There is no doubt that the poppy represents the international symbol of remembrance and support for all military veterans. In fact, it is much more popular in Europe that in the U.S. This recognition and popularity is due to a single woman right from our own community. Thanks to Moina, the "The Poppy Lady," the poppy is the most recognized symbol and reminder of those who serve in the military. Thank you Steve for keeping our history visble for us all to celebrate.

We were carving pumpkins on October 27th at the City of Loganville's Autumn Fest. Our Club provided 30 pumpkins to children to carve again this year and it was a fantastic event. Trophies were given to the top 3 carvers and medals were given out to all who participated. We extend our thanks to the Loganville Interact Club for their help making this such a fun time for the children. Great job Steve for pulling this together.

Susan Gaunt, a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Neuroscience unit at Gwinnett Medical Center was our guest speaker on 10/25/2018. Susan coordinates the education for the stroke program and spoke with our club about risk factors and how we can control them. Susan explained that during a stroke, every minute means 1.9 million brain cells are lost. That is why it is critical for you to call 911 if you believe anyone is having a stroke, including yourself. It's so important to evaluate and administer tPA, a clot-busting drug that can potentially minimize or reverse the effect of stroke. The drug, tPA, is effective only within the first three hours from when the stroke begins. Since many people do not recognize they are having a stroke, the faster the ED can perform the tests to determine if the patient is a candidate for tPA, the better. Susan explained that our overall health needs to be maintained to avoid making ourselves more susceptible to a stroke. On October 12th, 2018, the Loganville Rotary Club held its 14th annual golf tournament at Cedar Lake Golf Course in Loganville. It was a beautiful day for this great event for such a special purpose. This year's tournament was dedicated to the Walton County Christian Learning Center (WCCLC) and we were blessed to have so many golfers and volunteers make this day a great a success. The tournament raised over $16,000 for WCCLC and that funding provides an opportunity for youth to hear the gospel and understand how their lives can be changed forever by coming to know and understand Christ. Thank you to everyone for all the hard work and generous participation in this year's golf tournament.

On October 4th, 2018, Cyndi Ball, Founder and President of the Ladies Homesteading Gathering was our guest speaker. The Ladies Homesteading Gathering's mission statement is to share knowledge, build community and grow friendships. It's purpose is to empower women through homesteading. Cyndi explained that homesteading is all about becoming self sustaining. She gave us a great overview of her organization and how she became involved with homesteading and the journey to create a nationally recognized organization that began in 2009 with a simple class in her home on raising chickens. Cyndi has travelled the country speaking on homesteading and has inspired women all over the country to form homestead chapters and to hold homestead gatherings to equip others with knowledge and skills to be successful in homesteading. Cyndi homesteads on her farm - Lazy B Farm and has taken homesteading to the next level by offering farm stays, farm to table dinners, workshops, and farm tours. On September 27th, 2018, Jim Hollandsworth, the co-founder and Executive Director of The Path Project was our guest speaker. Jim and his wife Melinda co-founded Path Project in 2009 while Jim was serving as the Executive Pastor at Graystone Church in Loganville, GA. Jim eventually left his role in the local church in 2013 to serve full-time as Path Project’s Executive Director. Path Project programs provide a path to youth in our community that leads to high school graduation and beyond. Each program is designed to equip children relationally and academically to achieve the hopes and dreams that God has uniquely given them. These programs reduce the drop-out rate for the youth involved dramatically. Jim provided us with the story of how The Path Project was founded and how impactful is has been growing in our local community. The Path Project works with children and families in their own communities and provides home visits to build strong relationships with parents and as a way to connect with kids individually. Staff and volunteers will speak with parents to promote reading at home and discuss anything relating to the enrichment of the family. We are honored and blessed to have Jim and Melinda serve so passionately towards enriching the lives of all they encounter. Angela Yarman was our guest speaker on Sept 20th, 2018. She has been executive director of United Way of Walton County since 2002, and Communities In Schools of Walton County since 2009, and is now serving these organizations exclusively. The United Way funds 10 local agencies who help people in need in the community. The agencies are A Child’s Voice CAC, Boys & Girls Clubs, FISH, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Project Renewal, Shepherd’s Staff, Unlimited Services, Red Cross and Walton Senior Citizens. Communities in Schools is the nation’s largest and most effective drop-out prevention network. Its mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS believe that every child needs and deserves these Five Basics: 1) A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, 2) a safe place to learn and grow, 3) a healthy start and a healthy future, 4)a marketable skill to use upon graduation, and 5) a chance to give back to peers and community. Angela is an amazing person and is passionate about the well-being of our community. We are proud to know her and we are all inspired by her dedication to Walton County. On September 13th, 2018, Shane Short, Executive Director of Walton County's Development Authority was our guest speaker. Shane shared the purpose and mission of the Development Authority of Walton County which is to promote trade, commerce, industry and employment opportunities for the public good and general welfare and to promote the economic welfare of Walton County and the State of Georgia. The Development Authority works hard every day in an attempt to have industries locate or expand to Walton County. He provided us with an overview of many of the recent successful and exciting development initiatives and some of future opportunities for the County. Shane explained how the Development Authority was committed to ensuring that the development opportunities must be a good fit for the Walton community and that sometimes it makes sense to walk away from a company wanting to locate in the County. It sure is reasuring to know that Walton County has such a talented and capable person in Shane to guide the County into a prosperous future. Thanks for all you're doing for us Shane!

Seldom, (ok, maybe never) has our local club had a NY Times Best-Selling Author as well as a finalist for the National Book Award in 2015 and 2016 as a speaker before Thursday,September 6. But, we were fortunate enough to snag her while she was in the Atlanta area for another event. Mrs. Watkins resides in Charleston, SC, where she is a member of the Rotary Club in Charleston (we LOVE visiting Rotarians). She is also a non-practicing CPA. She has published four books; two of which have bene nominated for the National Book Award. She talked about two in particular at our meeting. Her first book “To Live Forever, An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis” published in 2013 and “Not Without My Father” which put her on the NY Times Best Seller List. She recounted with humor and charm the challenges of through-hiking the Natchez Trace with her 80 y/o father as wingman/driver and bookseller. He is quite a character and they knock heads quite a bit. She had some torn up feet and revelations as well on her journey and it's very engaging. I tore through the book in one day after purchasing all of her 4 books. If you have a chance to read her books or hear her speak, you won't be disappointed. Our club was enthralled!

Today's meeting was shared by two speakers. Our very own Sheryl Fambrough introduced us to the new Rotary mobile app. She walked us through some of the great features and how we can use them. It was great information and we were appreciative of Sheryl's time and effort to get us up to date. Our second speaker was another of own- John Sauers. John may be one of our more senior members, but he is fired up and full of energy for our annual golf tournament in October. He is chair of the event and our club has joined forces with local businesses and churches as well to make this thing huge! The goal is to raise enough to finish the new Christian Learning Center in Loganville. We appreciate John who has a servant's heart and a desire to help make our county a better place.

Our speakers for the August 23rd meeting were Carlyle and Darlene Cain of Origins Consulting Group. The Cains have had experience in education, general contracting and as business owners. They enjoy helping businesses and non-profit groups optimize their performance. They have many facets that they can address with businesses but today they discussed how to find out the strengths and weakness of all employees and management to improve every aspect of the business. The starting point for this process is using the DISC evaluation process. This is a well known evaluation tool and identifies the four types of natural and adaptive style attributes of people. DISC consists of Decisive, Interactive, Stabilizing and Cautious groups. From there the Carlyles moved into the Values Index which determines the internal motivations of staff. The enables managers to choose with staff assignments based on the strengths and weakness of individuals for particular positions. Another tool they use is an Attribute Index which identifies internal and external attributes such as self direction and empathy to help meet business needs. Identifying these areas can help build a team and find better ways to communicate within the work team and identify blind spots that might prevent a business from prospering due poor staff management. It was just fascinating information and we hope we can have them back in the future.

On August 16th, our club welcomed our new Rotary District Governor Bruce Azevedo. Using the theme of our district conference “Rolling On the River” as well as a classic red, white and blue color scheme, Bruce was welcomed by “Savannah Belle” (aka our very own Charmelle)as a classic Riverboat beauty and a video by none other than Tina Turner welcoming Bruce to our club. Our club members sported sailor hats or Uncle Sam hats and served as the background chorus while Tina Turner sang to Bruce. Bruce has many life accomplishments. He retired from the Navy and served during Vietnam and Desert Storm. He is a member of the Madison County Rotary Club, has been chairman of his local Chamber of Commerce twice, as well as Chairman of the Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority. He and his wife own a property management company. He is active in his church and is also a Gideon. That doesn’t cover everything, but as you can tell our District Governor is a busy man. Bruce shared with us some exciting changes he has implemented in our district including online training and Tuesday evening training in strategic areas located around our district to make Rotary more accessible since our district is geographically quite large. He shared with us a new phone app where we can locate clubs and members from other areas. He invited us to the district conference in Greenville, SC next May and shared with us some of the fun things that will be available. We were pleased to host our district governor and learn how Rotary is growing and changing. He also shared with us that our district is the number 1 district in North America for growth.

Our Club has joined forces with the Conyers Rotary and the Monroe Rotary Club club to support and host this years GRSP student. We were excited to meet James Antel. James is from England and gave us an overview of the West Country/Somerset from where he hails. Somerset is famous for:
1. an adult beverage cider which has been made for centuries.
2. The Glastonbury festival which is the largest greenfield festival in the world.
3. Cheddar cheese. The cheddar caves where this cheese originated are located in James district.
4. Pirates'/pirates accents. Since the area was once a hotbed of pirate activity all of the cool pirates on stage and screen affect a West Country accent.
5. Last but certainly not least the famed but possibly fictional King Arthur and Camelot was located almost in James' back yard.
James will be attending The University of Georgia this academic year. He attended Cambridge University and started out majoring in political and social science but the political side of things captured his attention and he graduated with a degree in political science. He was president of the student union and worked on a great deal of events organization; meeting many well known world figures in the process. He also also done research at Harvard University and has traveled internationally in Indonesia, several African countries and North America. He has worked on charity fundraising events. He enjoys cross country running and mountain hiking and has worked as a management consultant. He is excited to be in our fair state and loves our southern accent and corn dogs. We hope we can introduce him to some other really great southern foods like BBQ. James is just delightful and we look forward to seeing how he views our area through his eyes. We hope to have him back again at Christmas!

Our very own Loganville Rotary Club President-Mr. Rick Reagan was speaker for the July 26th meeting. Rick is Deputy Director of the Gwinnett Dept of Water Resources. Rick shared with the club about the vast amounts of water required by the citizens of Gwinnett county. At any one time there is enough water stored to fill 103 Olympic sized swimming pools, which may seem excessive until you realize that the Water Resources provides water for almost a million people in Gwinnett County. The water Gwinnett County uses comes solely from Lake Lanier. Gwinnett runs three water reclamation facilities and the state of the art Wayne Hill water reclamation facility which is configured like no other plant in the world. Gwinnett also has two water production plants located near Buford Dam. The county is also very forward thinking and plans for 50 years in advance for infrastructure and refreshing infrastructure for providing water. This enables Gwinnett to grow, attract industry and avoid the problems some of the surrounding area faces due to lack of infrastructure maintenance. There are about 600 employees in the Water Resources Department. Rick also gave all of the attending members samples of the fertilizer pellets that the water reclamation facilities help to produce. We were wowed by the information shared by Rick and appreciate all his department does to keep us supplied with safe water.

They recently returned from the Middle East and are in a fund-raising phase before returning to a different location next year. They shared their passion for this calling with the club. Due to security concerns we will not be publishing their names or pictures. They are lovely young people and pray for their safety as they ready for their next adventure.

Our July 17th speaker was Mr. Clyde Strickland the dad of one of our very own Rotarians Ken Strickland. Mr. Strickland is the very successful founder of Metro Water Proofing. He is also a philanthropist who has made a big difference in lives of many people in Gwinnett County and surrounding areas. He shared with us some of his current projects including the founding of the Peace Park in downtown Atlanta. In addition to his helping to found the Strickland Heart Center at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville where people can now go for interventional cardiac procedures including open heart surgery; he is involved in helping to upgrade the Stroke Center at Gwinnett Medical. This will allow patients to have access to cardiac procedures that are currently only available in our area at Grady. Mr. Strickland has recently published a book containing personal stories of his life and hard earned insights called 'What Can I Do”.

It's not every day that you get to hear a well known radio talk show host, accomplished political adviser and Rotarian all rolled in to one to speak to your club, but The Loganville Rotary Club as everyone knows is special. Our club was delighted to welcome Martha Zoller as as guest speaker on July 10th. Her longtime friend and Loganville Rotary Club member, Steve Arnold, introduced her and she was featured guest speaker for Charmelle Scott. Mrs. Zoller lives in Gainesville and in addition to her above accomplishments, she manages her husband's primary care medical practice, she is also a trustee for the Georgia Rotary Scholarship Program and is active in her local Rotary club. Mrs. Zoller spoke about her job as State Policy Director for Senator Daivd Perdue and how she travels the state meeting with constituents. Her job helps citizens navigate any federal program such as VA benefits and Social Security that resident citizens of the state of Georgia encounter. Martha has a vast wealth of knowledge of politics and a genuine care for the people of Georgia as was evidenced in her sharing her work. Her office helps people of all political persuasions. We loved having Martha Zoller as our guest speaker!

LET'S HEAR A GREAT BIG CHEEER FOR OUR 2018 ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS STUDENTS!!!! Vanessa Anim, Richard Bimpa, Rajah Crawford, and Cheyenne Carter were able to attend the 2018 Rotary Youth Leadership Camp for District 6910. The camp took place June 6th-9th at the Tallulah Falls School in beautiful Tallulah falls Georgia. Fellow Loganville Rotarian Nancy Davis was able to attend this year as our student sponsor. The camp hosts rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors that are interested in a four day leadership event that will include whitewater rafting, hiking, swimming, a ropes course, guest speakers and an opportunity for building lifelong friendships with fellow students. We know how RYLA helps shape the leaders of tomorrow and as you can see in the picture, Rajah Crawford won the trophy for Best Camper/Leader. On June 7th, Tim Newborn with New Horizon Ministries was our guest speaker. New Horizon Ministries is a local ministry that has a mission to provide Christ-centered nurture for children and families in need, share the love of Christ to incarcerated youth and adults, and to provide programs and experiences for our staff members that foster spiritual and personal growth. The program involves a biblical-based program that provides mentoring and training and teaching job and management skills. New Horizons Ministry also provides transitional housing for New Horizon Recovery Center graduates and offer job placement assistance. There is no doubt that New Horizon is making a positive difference in the lives of so many people in need. On May 31st, Holly Terei, author of the children’s book “Jacob the Flapping Dinosaur Goes to School” visited with us to bring such an important message about transforming the way children learn about Autism Spectrum Disorder. Holly explained how her own son was diagnosed with Autism and how over the years she has learned about other children struggle with understanding Autism. With this intimate understanding, Holly wrote the book to engage children to educate them on Autism. On May 24th, we were encouraged and uplifted in spirit by Robby Stewart, Uplift Sports Ministry’s founder, who has been an elite level sports performance coach for over 25 years. His coaching experience started back in 1988 at the University of Georgia’s where he developed the first Olympic Sport Strength and Conditioning program. In 1996, he co-founded one of the first and most successful performance training companies in America - Competitive Edge Sports. Robby has assisted in the performance development of over 1,200 professional athletes across the NFL, MLB, NBA, and MLS, as well as Olympians from 9 different countries.
Robby explained how God has led him to begin the development of Uplift Sports Ministry (USM) to combine the thirty plus years of training experience, both as a player and coach, with sound biblical teaching. New Members!! - Marty Thrasher and Randy McGinley officially joined the Loganville Rotary Club on May 3rd. What a blessing it is to be growing with service-minded members like Marty and Randy.
Marty is the owner of Dixie Exhaust Cleaning, a fire protection company. Marty’s services are relied upon in various industries involving different types of establishments and institutions that include but are not limited to: restaurants, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, churches, rehabilitation centers and any other commercial organizations that require fire protection.
Randy is the Chief Assistant District Attorney covering both Walton and Newton Counties. Randy was hired in 2011 as an Assistant District Attorney and has served as a prosecutor in both Walton and Newton Counties. Randy is a 2004 graduate of Georgia Tech, with a degree in management, and a 2011 graduate of Mercer Law School.

On April 26th, Dr. Sinclair Grey, an inspirational speaker, motivator, and author spoke at our club meeting. Dr. Grey has dedicated much of his life to mobilizing and inspiring others. Dr. Grey provided us with insight on his calling to help others to rise above self-imposed limitations to reach their real potential. The Walton County Christian Learning Center (WCCLC) exists to prepare students for God's call on their lives. At the WCCLC Annual Gala, Loganville Rotary Club President, John Sauers and fellow Rotarian, Steve Arnold, presented Terri Butcher, Executive Director of the WCCLC with a gift check of $4975. The Walton County Christian Learning Center (CLC) is a nonprofit, tax exempt, SACS CASI accredited school where elective courses based on Biblical principles are taught to almost 1300 students and schools in Walton County. Through WCCLC classes, students are taught Christian concepts like honoring parents and respecting authority at all levels, purity before marriage, developing trust-bond friendships, living a life of integrity, and being God centered leaders. We know that WCCLC is committed to teaching God's word to the next generation. Terri, we are overwhelmed by how God is using the WCCLC as His instrument to reach the next generation. The Rotary International President-elect Ian H.S. Riseley challenged every Rotary club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members between the start of the Rotary year on 1 July and Earth Day on 22 April 2018. Trees remove carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the air, which slows global warming. “It is my hope that the result of that effort will be far greater than the environmental benefit that those 1.2 million new trees will bring,” Riseley said. “I believe the greater result will be a Rotary that recognizes our responsibility not only to the people on our planet, but to the planet itself.” The Loganville Rotary took this opportunity to not only plant trees, but to honor our local heroes for their personal sacrifices to protect and support our community and nation. On March 23rd, 2018, the Loganville Rotary donated 25 trees that were planted in front of City Hall along Lawrenceville Road and in other locations on the property. The trees were dedicated to Sgt. Michael Stokely, Sgt. E.J. Murphy, Maj. David W. Gray, Master Sgt. Mark Allen, Mr. Ronnie Gray, Mr. Kury Hansen, Mrs. Marla Panyik, and Mr. Rob Kiser. These individuals will always live on in our hearts and every time we pass by City Hall we can be reminded of their sacrifices to serve us all.

Matthew Whitley, Director of Internal Audit for the University of Georgia was our guest speaker on 3/29/18. Matt is a recognized professional and expert in the audit industry who has been directly involved in over 600 fraud investigation. Matt worked for Coca-Cola as the Director of Finance over the North America Operations. Matt was also the Director of Internal Audit for Gwinnett County's Board of Commissioners. Matt holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance, both from Georgia State University. He is a certified internal auditor and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Matt provided us wth a very insightful presentation on auditing and the importance of this function to any business. He told us that, unfortunately, fraudulent behavior in the private and public sector is continuing to grow. Matt gave us some real-life fraud examples and how these investigations ultimately led to the criminal prosecution of those involved. Thanks to Matt, we all now have a better understanding about the pervasiveness of fraud, how and why fraud occurs, and prudent actions that any business should take to detect and prevent fraud. All members are in very interested in having Matt return for an encore presentation. Thanks Matt for all you do to support and protect UGA and our community.

On March 22nd, Beth McIntyre, from the Rotary Club of Winder, visited with us to provide our members with an overview of the Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life contest. Beth explained how thousands of students lives have been changed for the better through the contest which is a program for high school students in grades 9-12. The contest involves a student focusing on a single Law of Life statement to write an essay about their own life experiences and values. Beth told us how the essays allow students to reflect on the “silver lining” in their own life challenges, to give the students greater confidence to overcome and to realize their potential to live meaningful and purposeful lives and to discover how writing is a pathway to greater understanding over their own lives. Beth told us that the largest Laws of Life essay contest is the Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest. We are so appreciative of Beth and her work to promote this incredible program! It is always a pleasure to have Walton County’s Sheriff Joe Chapman was our guest speaker. Sheriff Chapman provided us with an overview of the measures being taken to keep our children safe in our schools and community. Sheriff Chapman explained how the Youth Investigations Division is responsible for investigation of juvenile criminal activity, and the benefits of the how the School Resource Officers (SRO’s) assigned within each Walton County school work with school administration to create a safe learning environment for our children. The SRO’s actually teach Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety (CHAMPS) classes to all 5th graders, and they serve as a positive role model for students, staff and the community. Sheriff Chapman discussed how social media influence our children and how his Office uses social media as an investigative tool to identify and combat threats to our community’s children. We are so thankful for Sheriff Chapman’s personal commitment to keep our children and community safe each and every day!

We were honored to have our newly elected Mayor, Rey Martinez as our guest speaker on March 1st. Mayor Martinez is believed to be the first Hispanic mayor in Gwinnett, and maybe in the State. Mayor Martinez provided us with his vision for the City and an overview of hard work already underway. He emphasized his passion for the youth of our community and how he works to encourage every young person to dream and achieve as they represent the future leaders of our world. He also told us about his recent visit to the White House to visit with President Trump. We are so excited to have such a committed and capable leader at the helm and look forward to this tradition as Mayor Martinez takes the baton from outgoing Mayor Dan Curry, our friend and fellow honorary Rotarian.

Ronnie Gray joined our Rotary Club a little over one year ago and he quickly became our dear friend and President Nominee. Ronnie passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the young age of 45 years old. Ronnie’s humor and overflowing optimism lit up our morning meetings, and we will always remember him for his abundant kindness, commitment and leadership, his faith in Christ, love for his family and friends, and his ability to simply make us laugh and smile when we were in his presence. We miss Ronnie, and while it is always difficult to lose those we love so suddenly, we thank God for the opportunity to have known Ronnie, and we are comforted to know that he is with our Lord. Let’s all remember to be in prayer for Ronnie’s wife Lisa and their two sons, Owen and Cooper, as they cope with their loss and move forward.

We were greatly inspired to have the Loganville High School Interact Club with us on March 8th. Interact provides students an opportunity to make a real difference in their community while having fun. Interact members commit themselves to participate in two service projects a year to help their school or community and promote international awareness and understanding. The Interact Club at Loganville High School provides students an opportunity to connect with community leaders, develop their own leadership skills, make connections across the world, and discover opportunities to connect with Rotary. On January 25th, our fellow Rotarian, Donnie Houston, provided us with a great overview of President Trump’s tax plan and its implications for corporations, business owners, and individuals. Donnie gave us better insight on how the new tax code has changed, what is known and how certain aspects of the plan are left to be interpreted by the IRS. Donnie has over thirty five years' experience in general accounting and business consulting. Donnie graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Professional Accountancy degree. He founded Houston & Company in July 1977. Thank you Donnie for helping us to have a better understanding of the new tax plan and preparing us all for the new tax year and things to come.

We are celebrating the addition of two new members,Sharon Hansen and Jason Rush to our Rotary Club. Sharon has been a honorary member of the Loganville Rotary Club for several years. She is an experienced health care professional who has always been passionate about caring for others. Dr. Barbara Ann Serle was our guest speaker on January 11th, 2017. Dr. Serle has been a chiropractor for 34 years and is inspirational when it comes to treating health problems the natural way - with her hands! Dr. Serle explained how drugs are not going to fix our health problems, but that Chiropractics is the natural method of health care that deals with the nervous system which ultimately controls our overall health. Dr. Serle provided us with an overview of the spinal nerve distribution and how certain ailments and poor health are dependent on a healthy nervous system. We were so incredibly blessed to have Megan Herndon, the Director of The Shepherd's Staff Ministries Inc. visit with us on January 4th, 2017. We were honored to have Tracey Bruner, the Director of Heart to Heart Family Services, Inc. as our guest speaker on November 30th, 2017. Heart to Heart was established in September of this year by Tracey after many years of supporting the foster children and foster homes in Walton County through The Ministry Village at the First Baptist Church of Loganville. The mission of Heart to Heart is to provide children a safe place to visit with family members, promote positive relationships and restore hope by keeping families connected.is to serve the children in our community and support those who care for their daily needs. Heart to Heart serves children of all ages,(newborn to 17 years of age), birth parents, as well as foster parents. In Walton County, there are only have 19 foster homes for children to go to and Heart to Heart is approaching 170 sponsored children. Most the children in Walton County must be served in other parts of Georgia. This presents a real personal challenge to the children who are already being pulled from their homes in very difficult situations, but only further traumatized by having to move away from their home community, school, and friends. We are always eager to see Mary Lamont and staff members from the Pregnancy Resource Center of Walton at our Rotary Club meetings. The Pregnancy Resource Center of Walton is a Christian (PRCW) is a 501-c3 non-profit ministry dedicated to the caring, teaching and healing mission of Jesus Christ. The purpose of this life-affirming ministry is to engage in the lives of anyone facing the challenges of an unexpected pregnancy by offering hope through compassion, information and support without judgment or criticism. PRCW provides compassionate care, practical help and evidence-based education to women who believe they’re pregnant and who may be considering abortion. The Pregnancy Resource Center offers help without judgment and a path to Christ, both in word and deed. All of PRCW's services are offered free of charge and include pregnancy testing, ultrasound to confirm pregnancy, and STI testing. Kelsey Wiltse, Health Educator from the Walton County Health Department was our guest speaker on October 12th, 2017. Kelsey provided us with important facts about how to live healthy livestyles and how diet impacts the quality of our lives. Kelsey told us that about 50% of all adults have high blood sugar which is a major contributor to diabetes and how there is clear data linking high blood sugar to heart disease, blindness, depression, and dementia. Kelsey reminded us about how important it is to avoid starch and sugar in our diets and to eat foods that are low in carbohydrates. She provided with some very valuable guidance from Dr. Sarah Hallberg who says stay away from light, low-fat, fat-free foods, eat Real Food, only eat when you're hungry, and to avoid grains, potatoes, and sugar. A great big thanks goes to Kelsey for being such an impactful life coach to so many and taking the time to be our guest speaker and for providing such a critical message on how to take care of ourselves so that we can have longer, heathly lives by simply eating better.

It is always an honor and pleasure to have our friend Rich Panyik, the current President of the Rotary Club of South Gwinnett, as our guest speaker. Rich inspired us with an educational and passionate discussion about Rotary Foundation's history and achievements. Rich discussed how Rotary Foundation began with its first contribution of $26.50 in 1926. He told us about how at the first national convention, held in Atlanta in 1917, Arch Klumph, president of the then International Association of Rotary Clubs, spoke of the need for some type of endowment in order to carry out "some great educational service to mankind." He said, "it seems eminently proper that we should accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world in charitable, educational or other avenues of community service." Rich told us about how the support of Rotary International through the foundation led to the launch of the PolioPlus program, the first initiative to tackle global polio eradication through the mass vaccination of children. Rotary has contributed more than $1.7 billion and countless volunteer hours to immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. In addition, Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by donor governments to contribute more than $7.2 billion to the effort. Rich shared the amazing news that in 2016 there were only 37 cases of polio reported across the globe and in 2017 there have only been 10 cases reported. Our very own club is part of this incredible journey through its support of Rotary Foundation, and what an awesome legacy to leave this world. Ann Gagnier and Theresa Rice with Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services (GLASS) were our guest speakers on 9/14/2017. Ann and Theresa described how GLASS provides free library services for individuals who are unable to read standard print materials due to visual or physical impairment.
Eligible patrons include anyone who is unable to read or handle standard printed materials as a result of temporary or permanent visual or physical disability; persons who are legally blind or cannot see well enough or focus long enough to read standard print; persons who are unable to hold or turn pages of print books, and persons who are certified by a medical doctor as having a reading disability. There is an estimated 1000 patrons in this program in the Atlanta region alone. GLASS provides access to over 83,000 thousand digital books and over 70 top magazines available in audio and in braille, with thousands available for download. Large print and braille formats are also provided.
Theresa demonstrated how to use the special playback equipment that is needed to listen to the books and magazines. This equipment is lent to eligible users free of charge for as long as the individual is a user of the reading material provided by National Library Service and its cooperating libraries. Chad Myers - Student Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Loganville was our guest speaker on 9/7/17. Chad has been active in the ministry for over 25 years with the majority of his time in the children's ministry. Referencing Genesis 2:15, Chad delivered a passionate, biblically-based message about our responsibiltiy to cultivate and protect our hearts, family, church, businesses, community and world. Chad's work in the ministry has been centered on cultivating and protecting youth, and he provided us with insight on how the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization has provided an open door to go into the schools of our community to bring hope through God's love to the lives of staff and students. Chad spoke about the many challenges facing youth today in our schools and how we can become involved through support of FCA. Chad also shared Fields of Faith, which is a student led event where students invite, pray for, share with, and challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ. An athletic field provides a neutral, rally point where a community can come together. We are grateful for Chad's ministry to our local youth and our prayers are with him, FCA, and Fields of Faith for the postive impact all are having on cultivating and protecting the youth of our community.

Michael Stephens of Repairing Hands Ministries was our guest speaker on August 31st. Michael shared how Reparing Hands Ministries works to share the love of Jesus Christ by repairing homes and hearts in our community. Michael knew that although he was successful in his trade within the private industry, God was directing his life in a totally different direction to serve others through his God-given talents. Repairing Hands Ministries partners with local contractors to provide a much needed service that can lead to having a worry-free home environment for families. Michael explained how the organization seeks out families that are in need of assistance with home repairs, and he provided us with an overview of recent home-improvement projects that not only the improved the physical lives of individuals through more livable homes, but demonstrated how God's love for individuals was real and they were not forgotten in their time of need. On August 24th, our special morning guest speaker was Swetha Gupta who provided our Club with an inspiring presentation about how Make-A-Wish Georgia serves to grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Foundation focuses on delivering four wish types - I wish to GO, I wish to MEET, I wish to HAVE, and I wish to BE to children and their families during some of most challenging times of their lives. Make-A-Wish Georgia has granted nearly 7,000 wishes since it was founded in 1995, and almost 400 wishes in 2016 alone. We received a special local "Wish Story" from parent Cindy Lee about her daughter's fight to overcome T-cell sarcoma and how Make-A-Wish Georgia came into their lives to provide much needed break from the battle. Callie's surprising ultimate wish was to go to London to see Big Ben, and the Make a Wish Foundation responded to this unique wish request and Callie and her entire family were able to go to London to escape for just a brief moment to enjoy their lives together. This personal and intimate first-hand story highlighted the postive impact of Make-A-Wish Georgia's work. There are over 800 children in Georgia waiting to have their wishes fulfilled and ten right here in Walton County. The financial need in Walton County or is $100,000. On August 12th, President John Sauers, President Elect Rick Reagan, and Public Image Chair Robert McLaughlin attended the Rotary University for our District. It was a day of wonderful fellowship, learning, and entertainment for us all. We are always inspired each time we hear from our District leadership and our District Governor David Cooper provided us with valuable insight on the year ahead. We also were so honored to hear from William G. Nordmark, III as our featured speaker. William is President and Chief Exective Officer of The Nordmark Consulting Group, working with health care organizations and businesses since 1993. Previously, he was the Executive Vice President of Blue Cross Blue Shield where he served for over 18 years. He was also President of the Rotary Club of Atlanta. William shared his life story of surviving polio himself and ultimately graduating from Georgia State University where he overcame all odds to become a 4-year letterman on the Georgia State University Panther Basketball Team. What an amazing testimony to overcoming life's obstacles to be such an impactful servant to our community and the world. Thank you William for all you have done and continue to do!

All Rise! We had a very special guest on August 10th. Our very own District Governor - David Cooper "Coop"! It's always a blessing to have our District Governor visit with us to provide us with an overview of his top priorities for the District. Coop has a passion for Rotary and is a real inspiration to us all when it comes to service, dedication, and action. Coop provided us with personal coaching on running a more effective club that can have a greater impact on the community we serve. On the professional front, Coop is president of Premier Platforms, Inc., an aerial lift rental and sales company he founded in July 1994. Coop joined the Rotary Club of Rockdale County on April 19, 2006, noting that the "Fun Club" knew how to have a good time while doing good things in their community. At the club level, Coop has served as International Service Chair, Club Administration Director, Club Secretary (twice), President Elect and President. Roger has been a FAA Licensed Pilot for 38 years and is an expert drone operator who holds a master's degree in architectural engineering. My Drone Aerial Photography provides professional high-resolution aerial photography and video services. Roger's clients inlcude real estate agents, appraisers, insurance agents and property managers. Also, Roger has provided services to many movie industry projects. Roger covered many interesting aspects of drone operation including the regulatory requirements to legally operate a drone. Roger has worked closely with the FAA and others to advance safe operation of drones. It was such a pleasure having Roger and his wife who assists in with his work. On Saturday, July 29th, Loganville Rotarians had the opportunity to participate in the "Fill the Bus" drive for needy students of Walton County schools. Rotarians partnered with our friends from the Lion's Club of Loganville, the Legacy Lions Club of Loganville, the Kiwanis Club of Loganville, Walmart Distribution Center volunteers, and the Walton County School volunteers to collect school supplies from generous Walmart customers. It was another hugely successful day for this event and we are always amazed at the generosity of so many kind people who contribute to this worthy cause. Thank you so much Walmart for all you do to support this annual event and a shout out for the wonderful volunteers who also make this day so special for everyone - especially the students. Hannah Brooks, our 2017 Rotary Scholarship Winner, and graduate of Trinity Prep School of Loganville, was with us on 7/27/17 to receive her $1000 scholarship award. Hannah shared her life experiences with us through her essay and we are so thankful that she understands the importance of service before self. In fact, Hannah has visited Nicaraqua twice to provide food school supplies, shoes and Jesus to remote villagers. There is no doubt that she sets the example for future generations to come with her passion for serving others. Albert Arts, the Atlanta Regional Manager of Destiny Rescue, was our guest speaker on 7/20/17. Destiny Rescue is an internationally-recognized Christian non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing children trapped in the sex trade industry. Albert shared how the vision of Destiny Rescue was to rescue the sexually exploited and enslaved, restore the abused, protect the vulnerable, empower the poor and be a voice for those who can’t speak up for themselves. Destiny Rescue operates in Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines and India. Since 2011, Destiny Rescue has rescued nearly 2000 children enslaved around the world, and their programs have prevented others from becoming slaves in sex trade. Albert shared individual stories with us about children who were exploited and how Destiny Rescue worked to free these children and restore their lives for a bright and happy future. We are blessed to have such a impactful organization working so hard, even putting their lives on the line, to end this horrific exploitation of children. On 7/13/17, Loganville Police Chief, Mike McHugh, was our guest speaker at our breakfast meeting. Chief McHugh has been involved in public safety for over 25 years and has been the police chief in Loganville since 2002. Chief McHugh shared how the department has grown from 13 to 30 officers since 2002 and discussed some of the current challenges and opportunties facing the police department. Most of us didn't know that Chief McHugh is also an accomplished artist who was commissioned by the Georgia Department of Public Safety to paint the "Lest We Forget" series of portraits of Georgia State Patrol troopers who have died in the line of duty since 1937. Chief McHugh expressed how this opportunity has been a humbling experience and such an honor to be a part of creating this tribute to the fallen troopers. He expressed how he always places his trust in God to reveal the plan for his life. We are blessed and honored to have Chief McHugh as our Loganville Police Chief. Thank you for your service and all you do for our community Chief McHugh!

On 7/6/17, Rotary Club President Renee Park passed the gavel to our 2017-2018 President, John Sauers. We are so blessed to have such amazing leaders and dedicated Rotarians as John and Renee in our Loganville Rotary Club. Renee is a very dedicated, effective and enthusiastic leader and we are so grateful that she served as our president over the past year. John is an Investment Advisor residing in Loganville, GA and has over 20 years of experience in the finance industry. He has been instrumental in our club's success for many years and previously served as our president in 2007 to 2008. Imani Arnold, Loganville High School Senior Class President, athlete, and Interact Club President, is our 2017 Interact Scholarship Winner, and we were blessed to have Imani with us as our guest speaker on 6/29. Imani earned the $1000 scholarship by writing an essay describing "What Interact has meant to me." She definitely sets the example for us all when it comes to commitment and dedication and truly embraces Rotary's Motto "Service before Self." Imani will be attending North Georgia University this Fall where she will be pursuing a Pre-med Biology degree and with the goal of one day becoming an orthopedic surgeon. We are so proud of Imani and know that she has an incredible future ahead of her. Congratulations Imani - you're AMAZING!

Rotary’s biggest gathering of the year brought more than 33,000 members from 174 countries to Atlanta for five days to celebrate The Rotary Foundation’s 100 years of Doing Good in the World. Words cannot capture the excitement of this event for Rotarians. The Rotary Foundation Centennial bell that was forged at a 1,000-year-old foundry in Agnone, Italy, in honor of the Foundation’s centennial was sounded to kickoff the centennial celebration. The event included many guests including Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, Rotary polio ambassadors WWE Superstar John Cena and golf icon Jack Nicklaus, actor and philanthropists Ashton Kutcher and Bill Gates. RI President John Germ was quoted stating that “If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that when two Rotarians get together, and start talking about service--there’s just no telling where that might lead." We are so thankful for John's leadership, and the countless and invaluable personal contributions of so many Rotarians from across the globe to wipe out polio and modern slavery and human trafficking. See you next year in Toronto!

Winston Menzies, pastor of Greater Grace Church, a non-denominational, spirit-filled church in Covington was our guest speaker on June 7, 2017. Wenston is the son of a World War II instructor pilot, and Winston was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Army upon his graduation from Texas A&M. After a successful military career, he then entered the private sector, enjoying additional success in the areas of real estate, building and design before being called into the ministry at the age of 44 years old. Winston has written a dozen books on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from simple how-to steps for building a debt-free home to practical guidance for living a more fulfilled life in Christ. Winston's latest book, "The Character Trait Journal," details how a person's success in life will be determined by their character. Winston shared with us important life lessons to live by and explained how character breeds success and happiness. Rather than reading a character book and forgetting it, this book gives you and your family a method to easily and enjoyably embrace and never forget these traits to make them a permanent part of our lives. We are so blessed to have Winston's insight on the importance of character and his work as an author and pastor to "save the next generation." God Bless you Winston!

Nancy Burgess, Executive Director of A Child's Voice, was our guest speaker on May 25th, 2017. Nancy told us how A Child's Voice exists to coordinate care and investigations for child abuse cases in Newton, Walton and the surrounding counties. The Children's Advocacy Center model utilizes teamwork and coordination between all agencies involved in the case, while keeping the child first. The model prevents the child from having to experience mulitple interviews with all agencies involved and allows for ongoing case tracking to ensure quality services children for whom allegations of sexual and/or physical abuse have been reported. A Child's Voice conducts medical exams, provides family support, and works with a multi-disciplined team comprised of law enforcement, DFCS, mental health, and prosecution to communicate the status of cases and ensure that all agencies are working together to best support children and families. We are so thankful for A Child's Voice and the incredibly important role it serves in protecting children. Thanks Nancy for all you and A Child's Voice does for our community.

Donna Hill, the Director of Individual and Senior Sales for E2E Benefits Services, Inc., was our guest speaker on May 11th, 2017. Donna has over 30 years of experience in health insurance, both individual and group, and she specializes in providing education to people who are turning 65 and entering the world of Medicare. She helps Seniors understand their Medicare choices and offerings so they can make the best choices that meets their needs at the best available price. Donna provided us with a breakdown of the 2017American Health Care Act explaining how the new bill differs from the current Affordable Care Act. Donna helped us understand the real impact of the proposed bill on millions of Americans. The Great City of Loganville's 3rd Annual Wing Fling was held on May 27th, 2017. We were blessed with great weather, amazing chicken wings, and delightful entertainment. Contestants competed to stake claim to the Best Chicken Wings in the land. Steve Arnold, the Wing Fling chairman and Loganville Rotarian, believes that charity begins at home, and with the help of fellow rotarians and the City of Loganville, this year's event generated almost $17,000 for local charities. This event provides funding to the Shepherd’s Staff, the Ministry Village, the Pregnancy Resource Center, local scholarships for the schools, and the Christian Learning Center,” among many other notable local charitable organizations, and to individuals in need. Congratulations to our Winners - 1st Place Jo-Jos BBQ, 2nd Place The Orchard Church, and 3rd Place Oasis Outdoor Lighting. A big THANKS goes to Steve and the City of Loganville for the commitment to serve the local community through this annual event. We are already looking forward to the 2018 Wing Fling!

Tami Wilder from Positive Impact International was our guest speaker on April 27th. Positive Impact International, is a 501c3 non-profit organization that serves children and families in the community by providing life impacting social services including performing arts and sport programs to children and families throughout economically challenged communities across Metro Atlanta. Tami also educated us on Project Safe Place which is a nationwide program serving 1,500 communities across the U.S. through 140 youth-serving agencies in 39 states and the District of Columbia. According to a recent National Safe Place annual report, up to 2.8 million teens run away from home each year. Safe Place provides access to immediate help and supportive resources for youth in need. The program designates schools, fire stations, libraries, and other youth-friendly organizations as Safe Place locations, which display the yellow and black sign. QuikTrip gas stations represent one of our local businesses that support this program and the youth of our community. Thanks for all you do Tami!

On April 20th, Wayne Pugh, our fellow Rotarian for the Covington club, was our guest spearker. Wayne provided us with an inspirational presentation on the Georgia Rotary Student Program and explained how our program is able to offer scholarships to young people who consider themselves “ambassadors” of their countries. In turn, we Rotarians of Georgia represent our community and are examples by which they judge the United States. As is always the case, in the application of “Service Above Self”, the giver benefits as does the receiver. We are blessed to have come to know so many wonderful young people through GRSP and look forward to continued involvement in such a wonderful program. Gary Moore, our fellow Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Rockdale County, was our guest speaker on April 13th. Gary is an attorney and is serving as the Associate Judge for the Rockdale County Magistrate Court and the Municipal Court for the City of Conyers. Gary also has served as the Rotary District 6910 Governor (2008-2009). We were honored to have Gary provide us an update on the 2017 Rotary International Convention which is being held in Atlanta. In 2016-17, our Rotary Foundation turns 100. That’s a century of Rotary members changing lives and improving communities all over the world. Gary shared several stories about past conventions across the world that he has had an opportunity to attend, and urged us all to be at the convention in Atlanta. We are expecting over 40,000 Rotarians at the convention and need volunteers to make this the most memorable Rotary International Convention ever. Karen Shields, Gwinnett County Water Resources' Communications Manager and Public Information Officer, was our guest speaker on April 6th. Karen has spent her over 25 years in marketing and communications arena in both the public and private sectors and previously served as the PIO/Communications Manager for the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments. Karen provided us with a very insightful video "The Social Media Revolution." This video emphasized how social media is not a question if we DO social media, but a question of how well we Do it, and that social media isn't a fad, it is a fundamental shift in the way we communicate. Karen covered how important it is for every business to tell their story on social media becuase it will be told by someone. She also emphasized to have a professional help business owners establish a social media presence. Thanks for taking the time to visit with us Karen, we all have a greater appreciation for the power of social media.

John Winstanley was our guest speaker on March 30th. John was born in England, lived in Germany for a few years and came to the United States in 1985. John is a graduate of Purdue University where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering and minored in German. John discussed the very serious and real topic of internet safety with a focus on addiction to internet pornography. This addiction affects children and adults, male and female alike. John told us about his own struggles and his life purpose in delivering help to those who are caught in the destructive cycle of internet porn addiction. John has created a website "The Fortress, which is a safe place for kids, students, parents, grandparents, schools, and churches to go to get advice, tips, tricks, hacks, hope, and knowledge about all things related to internet safety – with the Porn Pandemic as a major topic of discussion. Jennifer Hendrickson, the Director of Institutional Advancement for Gwinnett Technical College, and fellow rotarian, was our guest speaker on March 16th. Jennifer provided us with a great overview of Gwinnett Tech and the various degrees and certificates offered by the college. Gwinnett Tech offers over 50 degree, diploma and certificate options that can be completed in two years or less and the college serves over twenty-thousand students. Jennifer also introduced the Move on When Ready program which provides opportunities for high school juniors and seniors to enroll full-time in postsecondary institutions to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. A high school student in the dual enrollment program can earn an associate's degree by the time he/she graduates high school. What a great opportunity for any high school student! We are so appreciative of Jennifer's support in coordinating and supporting the Marla Panyik Scholarship Fund at Gwinnett Tech.

We were so blessed to have Joe Pinson share the history and purpose of the Celebrate Recovery program with us at our Rotary Club meeting on 3/9/17. The purpose of the Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power through the 12 Steps of Recovery. By applying Biblical principles, the program helps individuals begin to grow spiritually and become free from addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. Bill Jones, Retired City Manager of Loganville, was our guest speaker on 3/2/17. We are so grateful to Bill for his dedicated service and accomplishments over the past 15 years. Bill was instrumental in always getting to the "Bottom Line," advancing and formalizing the City's business practices, and setting the course for a great future for the City and its citizens. Bill also introduced our new City Manager, Danny Roberts. Danny provided us with an overview of the City's top priorities. On February 9th, Frida Eriksson, our 2016-2017 GRSP Student provided us with a wonderful overview of her life in Sweden complete with family pictures and the beautiful scenery of Sweden. Frida educated us on what life is like in Sweden covering topics like education, cuisine, and how Sweden observes certain unique seasonal holidays. She also told us about her past experiences as a world-class downhill skier. It was wonderful to hear about how Sweden was working to become energy independent through alternative energies that help preserve Sweden’s precious environment. We are truly blessed to have Frida as our GRSP student.

Amy Stranitzke and Alison Reid helped us kick off the new year as our guest speakers at our Breakfast Meeting on January 4, 2017. Amy is the Community Relations Director and Alison is the Executive Director of Dogwood Forest Assisted Living and Memory Care of Grayson. Dogwood Forest is subsidiary of the family-owned Trinity Lifestyles Management located in Alpharetta which if founded on the principles of providing Georgia’s senior community with lifestyle alternatives focused on overall wellness with emphasis on the Mind, Body & Spirit. The company’s senior executives have nearly 100 years of combined senior living industry experience. The company's seven Dogwood Forest communities offer assisted living, memory care, adult day services, temporary stays, post-operative care and care at-home care. We all wish the staff at Dogwood Forrest much success as they deliver the invaluable services to seniors in our community.

We were honored to have Rich Panyik join us on November 17th for our weekly Rotary meeting. Rich provided us with a wonderful Rotary Foundation Presentation that highlighted the organization's history and importance to all Rotarians. Rich has been a loyal and committed Rotary leader for many years. He is a charter member of the Rotary Club of South Gwinnett and has served as Club President and various other positions in the Avenues of Service. On the District level, he has served a District 6910 Polioplus Chairman in 1987-88, District Conference Chairman in 1990-91, an Assistant Governor for 3 years and District Trainer in 1996-97. He was District Governor in 1999-2000. Other activities include District 6910 Foundation Chair 2002-2005, District Trainer 2004-2006 and General Chair of the Zone Institute in 2006. He participated as a Training Leader at the International Assembly in San Diego in 2006 and 2007. Rich served as the Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator (RRFC) in Zone 34 for The Rotary Foundation in 2007-2010. He currently holds the position as Chair of the RI Leadership Development and Training Committee. Rich is a recipient of the Rotary International Service Above Self Award, The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award. He is a Major Donor and Bequest Society Member. Among these great accomplishments, Rich also serves as the designated driver for his beautiful wife and our fellow Rotarian Marla. A real big "THANKS" to Rich and Marla for all they do to serve us all!

Robert began serving as an Extension Agent in Gwinnett County in July 1994 and has more than 30 years of work experience as an Extension Agent in Fulton and Gwinnett Counties. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Georgia and serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Georgia Fanning Leadership Center. As an educator, Robert is dedicated protecting Gwinnett County’s natural resource by providing citizens, businesses, and green industry professionals with practical information to solve horticultural problems without harming the environment. Robert also works with 4-H and youth development programs to help provide skills for the next generation of leaders in Gwinnett.

Robert Mclaughlin, our fellow Rotarian, and professional photographer and graphic artist introduced our club to Operation Photo Rescue (OPR). OPR is a volunteer network of professional photojournalists and amateur digital photographers, graphic designers, image restoration artists and others. OPR’s mission is to repair photographs damaged by unforeseen circumstances such as house fires and natural disasters at no cost to the people who own them. Robert shared a few stories with us and told us about the tedious and challenging restoration process. Thank you Robert for dedicating yourself to such a valuable mission by using your professional skills to restore cherished photographs that will help preserve the precious memories of those you serve. Great job Robert!

We were truly blessed to have Lead Pastor of the Cross church in Loganville, Tim Cash speak at our September 29th Rotary meeting. Tim shared his faith with us and how God had provided him with the unique opportunity to use his profession to share Christ with so many fellow athletes and others across the world. Born and raised in Newnan, GA, Tim spent 5 years playing professional baseball with the Astros and Dodgers. He joined the ministry of Unlimited Potential Inc in 1989 and served with UPI for over 20 years as its North American Executive Director ministering to professional athletes and their families. Tim and his wife Barb came to The Cross Loganville in December of 2010.

We were honored to have U.S. Representative of Georgia's 10th Congressional District, Congressman Jodi Hice, as our guest on August 18th. Congressman Hice once served as senior pastor of Bethlehem First Baptist Church, and served as first vice president of the Georgia Baptist Convention and Professor of Preaching at Luther Rice Seminary. Congressman Hice also served as senior pastor at The Summit Church in Loganville. Congressman Hice is a member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that works to exercise effective oversight over the federal government and works proactively to investigate and expose waste, fraud, and abuse. Many thanks to Congressman Hice for his service as our Representative in Washington D.C.

Loganville Rotarians and Walmart Distribution Center staff joined forces on July 30th at the Loganville Walmart to help Fill the Bus with school supplies for children in need. Thanks to the generous donations from the community this year's Fill the Bus campaign was a huge success. The school supplies are distributed across Walton County schools and then provided to students throughout the school year. A special thanks goes to Walmart for their support on this very worthy cause.

Terri Butcher, the Director of the Walton County Christian Learning Center, was our guest speaker at our weekly meeting on 7/28. The Walton County Christian Learning Centers exists to help prepare students for God's call on their lives. That purpose is accomplished through teaching public school students the absolute truths of the Bible in relevant ways to affect transformational change in their lives and prepare them to positively impact their families, schools, communities and world. We were so honored to have Denise McCance with us on September 22nd. Faith in Serving Humanity (F.I.S.H.) is a Christian outreach ministry sponsored by various churches in Walton County. Their staff is almost entirely volunteer, with over 200 active volunteers,and comes from our supporting churches. Conceived by the local ministerial association as a way to respond to the truly needy in the community, F.I.S.H. operates as a nonprofit charity with 501 (c) (3) status, making all donations tax-deductible. F.I.S.H. offers a variety of services to qualifying neighbors in Walton County.
The Mission Statement of F.I.S.H. is "Because Jesus Christ calls His believers to be in service to the poor and needy among us, F.I.S.H. endeavors to respond to the spiritual, physical, and financial needs of Walton County residents." Several of the Loganville Rotarians were blessed with the opportunity to support the Ministry Village Project Jumpstart program over the past few weeks with their painting, cleaning, and general landscaping, construction, and maintenance skills. Thanks to all who were able to participate and a special thanks to John Sauers who coordinated the workdays and provided the team with helpful onsite training and coaching.
Project Jumpstart is a program offered by Loganville Community Ministry Village. The goal of Project Jumpstart is to help families or individuals progress from dependence upon governmental agencies or charities to self-reliant financial freedom; from poverty to freedom in Christ. Congratulations to Mike Albright, our Club President. Mike was among the graduates at the RLI training held on Saturday, April 30th at Athens Academy. The RLI offers Rotary knowledge courses in three sessions (Parts I, II, and III). The courses are designed to provide leadership skills while advancing Rotary knowledge and understanding. Great job Mike!

On November 2, 2014, the club met at Loganville's Destination Park to dedicate a park bench in honor of Kurt Hansen. The beautiful ceremony, with Kurt's wife, family, coworkers, and friends on hand, was the culmination of the club's hard work at beautifying the area and providing a lasting memorial to a man who will always be remembered as one who lived out the Rotary 4-way test. While Kurt will always live on in our hearts, his bench will remind the community of the importance of "Service Above Self."
