We enjoyed a good turnout, plus two junior Rotarians, Jasper and Lillian Warner to fill shelves in the pantry. We had the whole pantry filled by 10 after 6! Fantatastic work! Next week we meet back at Filmore's and our speaker will be Christian Smith, local YMCA director, speaking about their programs. |

In the absence of Kent, Meg got the meeting off to a good start with the pledge to the flag. Thanks to junior Rotarian, Kurtis for leading a strong 4 Way Test. We had two visiting Rotarians, ADG Dave Thomas (soon to be DG), and our speaker, Christian Smith. Also inattendance were Corbin and Kurtis Mainland. ADG Dave reminded us of the District Conference being held on 3-4 May at Crystal Mountain Resort, in Thompsonville. Only a short distance from our former Rotarian, Ken Babcock. |

Christian Smith, executive director of the local YMCA spoke us about the function(s) of the YMCA in the Petoskey area. Christian moved up here three years ago to help develop a new vision for the Y and to implement additional programs and veer away from the immediate goal of a multi million dollar physical structure. Chris told us about some of the Y's firsts, ESL in Chicago for Germans in the 1800s, the development of vollleyball, basketball, and summer camps for children. The Y operates a summer camp for youth and is held at the Ottawa School. When they moved the camp from Camp Pet-O-Sega they were able to shave the weekly cost per child to $100 from $150. The Y also has a FIRST Lego League after school that serves 160-190 youth each week. Christian, your visit here counts for two makeups. |
