History of the Rotary Club of South Shreveport

The Rotary Club of South Shreveport was originally organized under the name of The Cedar Grove Club in February of 1927, and received their charter on April 26, 1927.  This was the second local club chartered--the first was the Rotary Club of Shreveport.  The charter was received at a meeting at the Woodman Building.  The regular meeting place was the Cedar Grove Methodist Church (where Common Ground Community is now located) until 1939, when they moved to Southside Baptist Church.

In 1948 the meeting place was changed to the New Cedar Grove Methodist Church.   Meetings were held there until 1963 when the El Chico's Restaurant in Madison Park was chosen as the new meeting place.  Meetings were held there until October 1984, when the Sheraton-Pierremont was selected.  Later moves were to the Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club, then the East Ridge Country Club and currently Copeland's Restaurant.

Common Ground Community, 6806 Southern Ave.

We'll have Jason Deli's box lunches at Common Ground Community's location on Southern Ave. on Friday, April  26, 2024.  After we eat we'll pack goody bags for the students at Atkins Elementary.  The students will take these home over an upcoming school break.  This is part of our district grant project and we always have a lot of fun!

Come to the fellowship area at the back of the facilities.  You can park along the side street or in the open parking available directly across the street from the building.

Bring a guest if you like....particularly one who enjoys service projects and would be interested in joining our club!

Our Program for April 19, 2024

Pam Atchison has served as Executive Director of Shreve;ort Regional Arts Council (SRAC) since 1986.   Pam started her career in the arts as a high school theater teacher and has enjoyed a lifelong role as both student and educator.

In her earlier days, she created ArtBreak Festival which has celebrated the importance of curriculum-based and community-supported arts educational programs.

As she is now retiring she continues to support SRAC on a voluntary basis.  The 2024 ArtBreak program held just recently was one of the best attended events in its history.  She will be with us on Friday to talk about the event.
