March 6, 2026, Music Fundraiser

Our club will be hosting a major fundraiser in the spring and we will be needing club member participation moving forward.  The Inaugural Country Music Songwriters in the Round will be on Friday, March 6 at 6 pm on Walker Hall. Country music star Darryl Worley will be joined by his friends Brice Long and Wynn Varble for an intimate evening of dinner, music by the writers and the stories behind the songs and the all-star roster of performers they collaborate with. Tables of eight will be sold for $1,500 and four event sponsorships are available.

We need short term committee volunteers in advance and folks to help on the event night. We also need items for an auction that will take place online and wrap up at the event. The songwriters are also providing a number of auction items to make it special. Get in touch with Tab Brockman or Michael Cochran with questions, to reserve a table, with a sponsorship connection, to volunteer, or with auction items. Proceeds will go to the club's Community Scholars program.

Spectrum Article – December 2025 Global Grant Impact in Zambia

Over the past four years Paducah and several clubs in District 6710 have sponsored two global grants for the Impact One Initiative in Zambia. These global grant projects have purchased technology and trained teachers to teach literacy to students in under served community schools in Zambia. This testimony from one of those teachers is a shining example of the impact of Rotary in the world.

Lweendo Mweetwa beams with joy as she reflects on the progress she’s made as a teacher and how it’s impacted her 5th grade class at Ng’ombe Open Community School. Here’s her story in her own words.

“When I first joined the school, I had no experience teaching literacy, and most of my students couldn’t read. Before joining the Impact One Jolly Phonics training program, I really struggled. I didn’t know where to start. Fortunately, the school connected me to the literacy program it was already a part of under Impact One, and that changed everything.”

“When I think back, I learned to read through memorization, repeating words and letters until they stuck in my mind. But through Jolly Phonics, I became a student and discovered the techniques and strategies that could help my students learn to read. Whatever I learned, I put into practice. It made sense to me, and it made sense to them.”

“The one-on-one mentoring support helped me build my confidence and self-esteem. Today, my students can now sound out words, read independently, and actually understand what they’re reading. Teaching has become easier and more enjoyable because I know what to do. Seeing my learners grow into confident readers makes me proud, and it makes their parents proud too.”

This journey of learning to teach literacy has transformed Lweendo’s classroom, and she stands out as a key leader in her school and our networks. She boldly shares her tips and lessons learned with all who will listen. As a result, her entire school is transforming. In 2022, only half of the kids in this school could read. But fast forward through four years with confident, capable teachers like Lweendo at the helm, and now 79% of the students are reading! Remarkable results and life-long impact!
