The Indian Land Rotary Club was chartered October 25, 2006. Since that time, this club has distributed dictionaries to all the third graders at the Indian Land Elementary School and have now added the brand new elementary school - Harrisburg Elementary. We have sponsored students to attend RYLA, to attend Boys and Girls State as well as granting scholarships. This past year we gave out over $3,000 in scholarships to worthy students at Indian Land High School.
The club has participated in a clean water project with several other clubs (primarily Fort Mill) bringing clean water to a mountain village in Honduras. This project was dedicated in October, 2013.
The club has sponsored the Indian Land Fall Festival, first jointly with Sun City Carolina Lakes and The Gateway, to help build and furnish the Del Webb Indian Land Library - to which the club donated ~$40,000. And now, as this festival continues to grow we have raised funds to help the community in several ways, including furnishing smart boards for the Middle and High Schools, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, summer reading programs at the Del Webb Indian Land Library, arts & science camp each summer in Indian Land, as well as sponsoring at least 4 different sports teams in Indian Land. One of the main features at the festival is the South Carolina State Chili Championship cookoff - a CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) sanctioned event where the winner represents the state of SC at the international cookoff in Terlingua, TX.
The ILRC also participates in highway clean up being responsible for a two-mile stretch on Highway 521. The club has helped several young men with their Eagle Scout projects both with funding and physical labor.
